Imaging our restless Earth…

MSc/PhD Students and Postdoc Positions

MSc/PhD students and two-year postdoctoral positions are available at the Phi-Imaging group, College of Natural Resources and Environment, South China Agricultural University (SCAU), China. The research group, led by Professor Hua Wang, uses earth observation data in a wide variety of environmental research projects, particularly focusing on geohazards mapping and modelling.

Based on the expertise and experience, the candidates will be responsible to generate peer reviewed publications in prestigious scientific journals, to serve as co-investigator on future proposals, and to assist with leading the research efforts in InSAR algorithm development, InSAR/GNSS deformation mapping and modelling, multi-source remote sensing data for change detection, etc. The postdoc candidates are also welcome to choose their own research topic by agreement with your supervisor. Candidates with PhD degree in relevant field are eligible to apply for a postdoc position ALL YEAR ROUND.

For international MSc/Phd candidates, variety of fundings might be applicable supported by national or local governments. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested to take an adventure in geodetic imaging.

Requirements for Postdocs

We are seeking candidates that can contribute in the areas including but not limited to remote sensing, GNSS, and deformation modelling associated with earthquakes, volcanoes, tunneling, or groundwater etc. Ideal candidates should:
  1. Significant experience in one of the followings: (1) Designing, implementing, and testing remote sensing algorithms; (2) Processing remote sensing and/or GNSS data; (3) Geophysical modelling with applications to earthquakes, volcanoes, tunneling or groundwater.
  2. Rapidly adapt to new technologies, data platforms, or programming languages.
  3. Have first-author publication(s) in peer-reviewed SCI journal(s). Grant experience is also highly desirable.
  4. Ph.D. in appropriate field, e.g. geodesy, remote sensing, geographical information system, electrical or computer engineering, or earth science.
  5. Please be aware that only candidates under 35 years old and PhD degree awarded within three years can register in our postdoc system.

Salary and Conditions of Service for Postdocs

We offer internationally competitive salary of 200-300K RMB/year (approx. 30-40K USD pretax) + social insurance + awards. Postdoctoral candidates are encouraged to apply for various national and Guangdong provincial postdoctoral talents programs, with a maximum subsidy of 600,000 RMB (approx. 90K USD) for two years. We will also provide various international collaboration opportunities for group members. Please refer to the university webpage for details.
